Stanton Peele

"All truth is God's truth." Those were the words of my theology professor when I was a want-to-be theologian. Dr. Richards was making the point that truth is truth no matter where you find it. He also said, "No heritic is so brilliant as to be wrong about everything." Such is the wisdom and balance of a seasoned thinker.

Following in that stream I try to gleam what I can from Stanton Peele. His recent article titled Therapy by Job, Shakespeare, and Dostoyevsky is a good example. Peele has no issues with blending Bible, literature, and psychology. And even if you don't approve of his approach he still makes some convincing points about the human condition.

I think most pastors, and Christians in general, would find themselves on Peele's side when it comes to the results he wants - freedom from addictions. The divisions tend to come in the methods and assumptions Peele brings to the table.

Many years ago Dr. Richards helped me see that I need not agree with a person's assumptions or methods or results in order to benefit from their efforts. All I need to do is look for the truth and accept it where it's found.

Great post! I wish everyone could get that through their heads!
